Prime location

Overlooking the Doge's Palace from the prime location of an island in the lagoon is the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore. The 16th century Benedictine church was designed by Andrea Palladio, construction was during the late 16th century.

Renaissance and Tintoretto

The basilica church is designed in classic Renaissance style and comprises a fresh white marble facade which reflects beautifully on the lagoon in front. It holds a commanding location and is easily recognizable from other areas of Venice. The interior is bright, with white walls, two large paintings by Tintoretto can be seen from the altar.
