Casa Camper is the kooky hotel venture from an iconic shoemaker, The Camper Shoe Company. Touted as a designer hotel in the luxury bracket, the boutique hotel is housed in a 19th Century Raval tenement building near the Contemporary Art Museum.
The lobby area is literally scattered with piles of books and magazines, there is a complimentary snack bar where guests can indulge in soup, sandwiches, drinks and more. Breakfast is included in the tariff, which is a novelty in Spain.
Boho and quirky by nature, the design is more eccentric than hip or chic, with hammocks slung across the corners of rooms to private sitting rooms that are actually across the corridor from the bedroom. Playful in their decor and aimed to appeal to well-heeled hipsters the rooms are empty enough to be minimalistic, but not barren. Each room is actually a mini-suite with separate sleeping and sitting areas. There is one "real" suite on each floor with the living and sleeping areas linked by a sliding door.
If the flower power vibes become overwhelming, take a nap in a hammock on the rooftop terrace.
