Built between 1298 and 1460, La Catedral is Barcelona’s central place of worship and one of the few churches spared by the anarchists in Spain’s civil war. Setting it apart from the other churches in Barcelona is the beautifully decorated facade with stone intricacies and gargoyles that are typical of northern European Gothic style which was added in 1870.

Inside, slim pillars divides the soaring space into a central nave and two aisles. A skillfully sculpted 14th century timber coro (choir stalls) stands in the middle of the central nave. Of course you can wander down to the crypt to visit the tomb of Santa Eulalia or the cathedral’s roof for a bird’s eye view of medieval Barcelona. Additionally, there is lots to see in the surrounding area, such as the 13 geese that symbolize Eulali’s martyrdom.
