Know Before You Go

Most folks just stumble upon this place, in the fishing town of Barceloneta.
You cannot leave without trying the spicy potato bomba, supposedly invented here.
The place is almost bare, small and crowded with locals...all great signs for a true foodie.
Sometimes the waiters (who speak only Spanish) can come across as a bit blunt and at the same time warm-hearted.
This family run tapas bodega, La Cova Fumada has been known to be the birthplace of the spicy potato bomba. Located in the fishing town of Barceloneta, they offer a variety of dishes including marinated sardines, a tomato and onion salad, chickpeas with morcilla (black pudding), calamari, pulpo (octopus), all expertly crafted in the small open kitchen near the entrance. Of course all the seafood is fresh and locally sourced. They don’t give out table menus, rather the menu is displayed on one of the walls. Always packed, expect to share a table with some of the locals who frequent the joint. So if you’re looking for a great hole-in-the-wall type of place, give La Cova Fumada a try.
