A wonderful experience for children and parents alike, this museum showcases the beauty and the workings of locomotives. Kids of all ages have many activities to keep them occupied and learn at the same time.

Know Before You Go

There is a flea market every Sunday at the museum, with a live band.
The building needs some maintenance work!
The admission cost is fairly reasonable and you get to see a lot of cool trains.
Check their website prior to your visit as the museum is closed on some random days.
It is not too huge and you can easily spend one or two hours here.
Museo del Ferrocarril [Madrid Rail Museum] has an interesting collection of railway rolling stock from 19th century puffers to diesel locomotives of the 60's & 70's. The display of rolling stock is very well maintained, lovingly presented and represents the history of the Spanish rail network very well.

For children, they have play area to build train tracks, colour pictures and watch children's videos. There is also one locomotive which has its outer shell removed so that the operating machinery is visible. This locomotive as well as one more old Talgo Train are a big hit with children.

The star attraction is an old Wagons Lits dining car with a beautiful period interior. The wagon doubles as Museum Café serving wide range of food for very low prices. The wagon car is carefully restored buffet car of nineteen century. You can see wonderful wood inlay internal decor with birds in amazing detail, neo Venetian lampshades and a brass coffee machine which still works.
