Seville has everything - incredible smells, tantalizing tastes and stunning riverside views. The city on the Guadalquivir River, is also one of fine architecture and high-end shopping streets.
History - Roman, Muslim, Christian
While the city was initially founded by the Romans, Seville was later ruled by the Muslims, and finally became Spanish / Christian in the 13th century. Throughout its ever-changing history, Seville has remained one of the most important cities in Spain, and Europe.
Today, the city is noticeably populated, with over 700,000 people living here. This means, like every major city, the streets can be busy, the people in a rush and there can be some traffic.
Grand Architecture, all on foot
The historic center revolves around The Cathedral, Calle Sierpes and Plaza Nueva. It has some of the grandest architecture in Spain and can be seen on foot and within a few days.
Several of the city's other neighbourhoods also have impressive structures that give you an insight into the city's past. Barrio de Santa Cruz, and the old Jewish Quarter (whitewashed and pretty) is navigable by small alleyways.
The Triana neighbourhood – wealth and ceramics
Much of the city also remains very “Seville” like, such as the Triana neighbourhood, which is extravagant and rich, not simply because of the architecture but also because of the people that live and work here. Many people visit this neighbourhood for the world-famous ceramics that are made and sold here, but also to see the eccentric bullfighters and flamenco dancers perform on the streets.
